Spoons Kitchen Serves Up Hometown Flavor in Byron

Opened in February 2025 by local chef Paige Morris, the cozy diner now occupies the former Schoenies Pizza location at 518 2nd St NW and is quickly becoming a go-to for locals from Byron, Kasson, and even Rochester.

With seating for about 48 guests and overflow parking available at the nearby American Legion, the restaurant welcomes guests with a cabin-like feel and friendly, small-town service. Patrons rave about the hearty classics especially the three-meat and egg combo, pancakes, and the owner’s personal favorite: French toast. The lunch menu features burgers, sandwiches, homemade soups, and egg or tuna salad served on croissants, biscuits, or burritos.

Morris, who previously worked in area kitchens including the American Legion and Smoak in Rochester, says she wanted to create a place where people feel known and welcomed. Judging by early reviews on Yelp and MapQuest hovering around 4 stars and customer comments like “They remember who you are… the coffee's good, too,” that vision is already taking shape.

Spoons is open Monday and Wednesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and weekends from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Closed Tuesdays). For those seeking comfort food, good coffee, and community connection, Spoons Kitchen is worth the stop.
