A building purchase leads to J.H. Larson Co. entering Rochester

Nine Decades strong the growth of J.H. Larson continues. The family owned company is making a substantial investment into commercial real estate with the goal to be open for business in early 2025.

As of January 16th 2025, Olmsted county records report a sale of the property at 108 Wood Lake Drive Southeast in Rochester, Minnesota for a total price of $1 Million Dollars. This property was on the market, listed by Realty Growth Inc. The flex property with drive in doors, office space, and a loading dock attracted J.H. Larson as an investment opportunity to establish a Rochester, Minnesota location. J.H. Larson was represented by commercial real estate veteran Jason Meyer of Cushman & Wakefield to acquire the property.

In an era where family-owned businesses increasingly give way to corporate and private equity consolidation, J.H. Larson Company stands as a testament to the enduring power of family leadership and customer-first business principles. Founded in 1931 and headquartered in Plymouth, Minnesota, this distributor of electrical, plumbing and HVAC products has evolved from a single location into a regional powerhouse with seven strategic locations across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and South Dakota. Additionally, the company also offers premier lighting and plumbing products with four locations of Pahl's Designers Showrooms.  Along with suppling superior products, Pahl’s also provides homeowners with design services and specialists that can fit any budget and style.

The company has long had customers in the Rochester area. With the continued growth and demand for the products that they sell from many customers, it made perfect sense to start 2025 with growth in the Rochester community.

The Larson/Pahl family have been active owner operators since the company’s founding. The leadership of the company today involves the president Luke Pahl whom I had the opportunity to ask a few questions about this investment.
