Harpo Returns to Rochester with Lucky’s Bar & Grill
Downtown Rochester is buzzing again, and part of that revitalized energy comes from a familiar face returning to the heart of the city.
Michael Vogel—though most locals know him as Harpo—has stepped back into the bar scene as the new proprietor of Lucky's Bar & Grill. A Rochester native with more than three decades of experience in the industry, Harpo’s return marks a new chapter for the city’s hospitality scene.
“I was in the bar business for 33 years with Tom and Jack Murphy before I retired to Phoenix in 2019,” said Vogel.
The location of Lucky’s, nestled in downtown Rochester, has a vibe of nostalgia and shows plenty of opportunity. Harpo previously worked at Dooley’s Pub just across the street, and he’s well aware of the foot traffic potential that comes with proximity to Mayo Clinic.
“With Mayo starting to bring employees back to the office, there’s a new energy,” he said. “It’s always been a good location, and with all the investment happening downtown, it felt like the right time to come back."
Despite the pandemic reshaping the city’s rhythm, Harpo remains optimistic about downtown Rochester’s comeback.
“Covid changed a lot, but people are ready to gather again," said Vogel. I want Lucky’s to be a place for locals, for Mayo employees, and for anyone looking for a relaxed atmosphere."
Vogel’s vision for Lucky’s Bar & Grill combines a classic neighborhood bar feel with modern energy. It's a tribute to the community he's always called home—and a fresh start rooted in history.
