From a Mall to Pickleball

From a Mall to Pickleball

Winona's Newest Hotspot: Pickleball Courts
Published on

A once-familiar space in Winona has undergone an exciting transformation, bringing the fastest-growing sport in the U.S. to the heart of the community. Stacy and Les Herman have officially opened Winona Bluff Pickleball Club, a dedicated indoor facility located inside the newly revitalized mall on Gilmore Avenue.

What was once a grocery store—and later a gymnastics studio—has now been repurposed into a top-tier pickleball hub, featuring five indoor courts, a comfortable lounge, restrooms, and professional-grade flooring designed specifically for the sport.

“There were places in Winona where people could play, but nothing that was exclusively for pickleball,” said co-founder Stacy Herman. “When we purchased the mall, we saw an opportunity to create a space just for this fast-growing sport, and the community response has been amazing.”

The club offers a wide range of opportunities for players of all skill levels. Newcomers can book lessons through the Court Reserve app, a cashless platform that simplifies scheduling, payments, and facility access. Players create a profile, reserve court time, and receive a four-digit PIN to enter the facility—open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Winona Bluff Pickleball Club hosts a variety of leagues and events, including men’s and women’s leagues, and a popular “Ladies Win and Split” night where players rotate partners to meet new people and improve their skills in a fun, welcoming environment.

“This is more than just a place to play—it’s a place to connect, you meet people, play different styles, and constantly learn from one another.” Whether you're looking for a new way to stay active or seeking competitive play in a vibrant setting, Winona Bluff Pickleball is quickly becoming a go-to destination in southeastern Minnesota.

So next time you're nearby, grab a paddle, stop by the courts, and experience firsthand the energy and connection that’s turning this once-quiet corner into a vibrant gathering place for all ages.
